Update! The Milwaukee Common Council has reinstated a total of $1.2 million in down payment assistance to the City's 2025 budget.
Members of CDA's Resident Advisory Council on Housing (RACH), together with other allies, rallied to support restoring down payment assistance (DPA) to the City's 2025 budget. Alice Pugh, Secretary of the RACH, testified on the importance of DPA. Many members of the Common Council supported restoring DPA funds, including Marina Dimitrijevic, Chair of the Finance and Personnel Committee, Scott Spiker, Vice Chair of the Committee, Jonathan Brostoff, Peter Burgelis, Mark Chambers Jr., Milele Coggs, DiAndre Jackson, Sharlen Moore, President José Pérez, Andrea Pratt, Russell Stamper II, and JoCasta Zamarripa.
Since the adoption of the Collective Affordable Housing Plan, and the doubling of down payment assistance, we have seen the first increase in both the Black & Latino Homeownership rates in over 15 years.
